Law Practice early history
David S. Heier began his legal career as a Judge Advocate in the United States Marine Corps. This early experience formed the basis for his desire to strive for excellence and his unwavering commitment to professionalism.

He requested and received his first assignment as a Legal Defense Officer representing marines and sailors in Special and General Courts-Martial. Here he gained invaluable and extensive trial experience in which few young attorneys have such an opportunity.

While stationed in southern California he was later assigned to represent military members and dependents in family law matters that involved California family law. California has long been a leader in the area of family law on issues of parenting and child support that were much later followed by Ohio and other states. He was drafting shared parenting agreements and applying child support payment guidelines long before any such laws were adopted in Ohio.
Clients come first
After completing his active military obligation, David S. Heier started his civilian law career as the Assistant City Attorney of Upper Arlington, Ohio.  This later led to his election as a City Councilman and to his appointment to the City's Board of Zoning and Planning. This local government public service continued until he decided his preference was to serve individual clients as he did during his years of military service.

In July of 1986, he opened his solo law practice which continues to this day. Over the years he has narrowed his law practice to mostly family law matters.

David Heier's view to practicing law can be summed up as follows: "The practice of law is more than the drafting of legal documents. It is more than trials and procedural rules. It is about helping people through a legal process and seeking the best outcome to reach their goals."
